Literature Text

poetry
pathetic proffession,
linguistic affection
rolls down your tongue and i know you need to
spit
just to get it out

nobody
likes the idea of watching somebody
write a poem
like visiting your mother in the hospital and
instead of taking you to soccer practice she's laid out like a frail baby bird, IV dark circle bruises modesty robe
and all she can do is smile and let her eyes glaze and roll.
it isn't a picture of the person you know.
maybe because i once heard somebody say that if poetry had a smell
it would smell of
rotting flesh.

and poetry will
gladly sink your eyes back into your skull
i think maybe, that we should stop calling ourselves poets

whoever you knew before
was relinquished to a puddle of loose nerves and skin cells
we're sorry,
it was poetry's fault.
"would you mis-glue together a puzzle and put it in an art show? didn't think so."

under construction because this is embarrassing.

I like. Critique:
Profession is misspelled.
"it rolls down your tongue and i know you want to spit" is my favorite line. but the one after is awkward. maybe get instead of force, or push, or something.
"write a poem" could be writing instead
"maybe i only think that because i once heard somebody say
that if poetry had a smell" would be better phrasing
"poetry...tell those lies!" i like how this is the only one that rhymes
the ending was wonderful, though.
